In omnium is like a stage race, but instead of using the accumulated time for a rider over multiple stages it instead uses points. So riders earn points for their finish position in each of the 4 races and the rider with the most points at the end wins the overall omnium.

Yes, the Tour of Newport News is a USA Cycling sanctioned event. You will need either an annual or one-day license to participate. One-day licenses can be purchased during registration on bikereg.com and they must be purchased for each day of the event you plan on participating in.

No, the events are free and open to the public. The Todd Stadium Points Race and the Newport News Twilight Criterium are great for spectating. Spectators are allowed on Fort Eustis if they possess a Common Access Card (CAC) or complete the background check procedure.

No, we no longer do day-of registration for any of the four events. Pre-registration is required to participate in the events.

Registration opens on January 1st for the full omnium. Individual events open on February 1st. Registration closes for the full omnium and the Fort Eustis Circuit Race on March 30th because of background check requirements. A waitlist opens after that date and you will be added to the event if your background check information is approved before Wednesday, April 9th. The Todd Stadium Points Race, Crawford Road TT, and Newport News Twilight Criterium’s registration closes on Wednesday, April 9th.

Registration for the full omnium starts at $100 for some of the women’s categories and $130 for all others. The price increases as it gets closer to the event with a final price of $180 for the omium if you wait until the final two weeks to register. Individual events are between $30-35 and increase up to $50 if you register later.

Yes, in most instances. Registered riders are eligible for refunds for most reasons except for a poor weather forecast that does not cancel the event. Refunds must be requested before Wednesday, April 9th, 2025.
Tour of Newport News

No, you can sign up for as many events as you want. The only requirement is that you sign up for all four events if you want to be eligible to compete for the omnium title.

Winners jerseys are reserved for particiants who win the omnium for their category. An online store with Cutaway USA will be opened and winners can order their jerseys through the store. In categories with more than 5 riders a discount code will be emailed to the winner to make one jersey free. Additionl jerseys cost extra. For categories with less than 5 riders, a winners jersey can be purchased.

Todd Stadium Point Race

A points race is traditionally a mass start track event that has riders ride for a set number of laps. Within the race are sprint laps at designated intervals where riders earn points based on finish postion. The overall winner is the rider with the most points at the conclusion of the race.

For the Todd Stadium Points Race categories will race for between 30-50 minutes with sprints every 5 laps. Points will be scored 10 places deep for each sprint. Yes, there is ample parking for particpants and spectators.

Fields that are racing together will be scored separately for USAC Cycling results and omnium points.

Yes, riders who are lapped or are in danger of being lapped will be pulled for both safety and to simplify scoring. This could be 2 laps in or with 2 minutes left in the race.
City Center Hill Climb

A Hill Climb is a time trial where the course is predominantly up hill. Riders will start at the bottom and ride as quickly as they can to the top.

The City Center Hill Climb course is located at 751 Lakefront Commons in whats called City Center, Newport News. The race will take place in the 8-story parking garage adjacent to the Feguson Enterprises Headquarters.

The Hill Climb will take between 1:30-2:00 to complete. It is a very short, explosive effort.

Yes, there is parking availble in the 2 other parking garages within City Center as well as surface lots for those who transport their bikes on top of their vehicles. Please do not forget about your bike on top of your vehicle if you park in a garage.

Yes, we will be having the podium ceremonies on site in the parking garage 15 minutes after the last rider of each category.

You can warm up throughout City Center, but we recommend in the industrial park beside the parking garage.

Please do not ride the course anytime other than during the event. We have special permission to use the parking garage for the event so please do not ride before or after the event as it will cause us to lose permission for future events.

Yes, the concrete has a broomed finish so it is very grippy in the turns.
Crawford Road Time Trial

A time trial is solo race against the clock. Often called the race of truth, a time trial is the purest form of racing as it is man and machine trying to set the fastest time on a course.

The Crawford Road Time Trial takes place in Yorktown, Virginia on Crawford Road. The address for Parking is 11201 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Yorktown, VA 23690. The start and finish lines are approximatly 400 meters from the parking lot on Crawford Road.

The Crawford Road Time Trial is a 5 mile out and back course.

The Crawford Road Time Trial operates under Merckx rules, which means road bikes only (no TT bikes, or aerobars), no solid disk wheels, no TT helmets (aero road helmets are ok).

Yes, there is parking availble at Yorktown Middle School, however the number of vehicles sometimes exceeds the number of spots. Please leave the venue after completing your race and after the podium ceremony if applicable.

Please cross over George Washington Memorial Hwy heading east and warm up on Goosley Rd, Cook Rd, and Surrender Rd. We received complaints from motorists last year because of the number of cyclists warming up on Goosley Rd in front of Yorktown Middle School.
Newport News Twilight Criterium

A criterium is a mass start race on a course that does not exceed 1.5 miles per lap. Races are run on time with categories racing for between 30-60 minutes. The winner is the rider who finishes first on the final lap. Criteriums are one of the most spectator friendly discplines of bike racing.

Technical. The Newport News Twilight Criterium is a figure eight shapped course with eight 90 degree turns in a 1 km lap. It is mostly flat, but with one small downhill and uphill on the backside of the course. The final corner is only 130 meters from the finish line making it a race to be first into the final corners.

Yes, there is ample parking at Newport News City Hall, the surface parking lot on 23rd St, and the Parking Garage at the corner of Huntington Ave. and 25th St.

Yes, team tent spots are available via reservation on the registration page. One tent spot is good for one 10’x10’ tent. Additional spots can be purchased for additonal tents. All reserved tents will be given a special tag to display. Please only set up tents in the areas marked with tape.

On-bike lights are prohibited for the Newport News Twilight Criterium. There is ample light from street lights and auxilary tower lights. Please do not wear dark shaded sungasses when racing the evening races.
Oakland Industrial Criterium

Fast and smooth .7 mile D-shaped loop with 2 wide 90 degree turns. You will not need yo use your brakes much if at all on this course. The finish line is around 300 meters after the final turn.

Yes, there is ample parking at the AAFES Dan Daniel Distribution Center which is a short walk or ride from the course. Signs will direct you to the designated parking lots. Address: 231 Enterprise Dr., Newport News, VA 23603

No, lapped riders can remain in the race granted they are riding safely and are moving to the side of the road while being passed by the field.

Yes. We will hold podium ceremonies for both the Oaklnad Industrial Criterium and the overall Tour of Newport News omnium after each categories race.

The industrial park is large so there are various roads within the industrial park riders can warm up on. The Crawford Road Time Trial course is also relatively close by.
